Rice 3rd baseman and likely #1 pick in the 2011 draft, Anthony Rendon, got back on track after starting slow in the first week of the season. Rendon, who missed most of the summer with a foot injury, looked rusty in his first weekend but is now hitting .393/.514/.643 with 2 home run, while posting his usual video game like BB/K ratios.
Rendon is considered one of the best hitters coming from College in a long time. His plate discipline is one of his best tools, evidenced by his low k rate and high walk rate, walking more than he strikes out. But thats not all Rendon offers, he has well above average power and has enough athleticism to be an above avg defender at 3rd. Simply he is one of the most complete college hitters in a long time.
The last two draft have gotten big publicity because of the two guys at the top, Strasburg and Harper now teammates with the Nationals, while Rendon may not get the same publicity he is right there with them as far as talent.
It was reported earlier in the week that the Boras corporation is going to advise Rendon. The Pirates have shied away from Boras clients in the past but it would be a huge mistake if they don't take him with the #1 pick. He is the clear favorite since he is already answering the main question mark coming into the year. "Can he bounce back from the injury?" he is showing that he can shake the dust off.
