Check out this YouTube video of Tyler Goedel, IF/OF, St. Francis HS, CA. I want you guys to focus on the Catcher behind the plate, Austin Hedges, almost at the end of the vid.
Hedges is the best HS Catcher in this draft. I know Swihart is ranked higher but thats based on his bat and there are questions about his ability to stay behind the plate.
Hedges is lauded for his defensive work but it is better seeing it with your own eyes than reading it with your own eyes. Thats quickness that can't be teach, how he transfers the ball so easy, clean from glove to hand to get the runner at first.
He has questions about his bat but his defensive work is worth a team taking a gamble on the bat, because he does have power and the question marks are workable. At the very least he offers Gold Glove caliber defense behind the plate or if things work the right way he is an All-star catcher.
I'd be remiss if I don mention that the price tag is steep, since he has a strong UCLA commitment, but I think he is worth it.
