Draft Notes

  • Gerrit Cole was back on track last night. Keith Law reported that he hit 99 multiple times deep in the game and hit 101 MPH on his gun. Here is a tweet pic of his gun reading.
  • Theo Epstein was reportedly in Texas to watch power hitting outfielder Josh Bell in the playoffs. Bell hit an estimated 400 ft HR to straight away CF.
  • Jim Callis came out with his latest Mock draft. The biggest surprise to me was Javier Baez ahead of Lindor but overall it is a good mock draft. I've been trying to do mine and there is so much talent that it is hard to place them with the right team.
  • Performing well before the draft may have some effect on team's draft boards. The talent is so close that performance may be a deciding factor. Gerrit Cole turned it around last night as I said and Buster Olney reported yesterday that the Pirates are still considering him. The #1 pick is wide open unlike the last two drafts.
  • Anthony Rendon was back on the field this week but playing 2nd base, he also hit a HR. If there is nothing wrong with his shoulder he is most talented and the most likely to be a star from this draft.
  • We should hear about Rendon's shoulder and ankle before the draft as his medical report is supposedly at the scouting bureau waiting for Rendon's permission to be released to teams.
